Watch all the action from RNZYS
This year there’s even more reason to watch the Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta from the comfort of the Squadron. For the first time, the hugely popular Tugboat Race will be starting and finishing off Westhaven, along with the Classic Launch Race and Keelboat Races.
The RNZYS Quarterdeck and outside deck will be open on Auckland Anniversary Day, Monday 1 February, 2021, and provides one of the best vantage points in the city to watch the historic Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta.
Generations of Aucklanders have fond memories of watching the regatta, held annually to celebrate the founding of the city in 1840. This year marks the 181st edition of this much-loved event, and the Squadron will be open to all to come and enjoy the celebrations.
With coffee and pastries served from 9am, spectators will be able to enjoy breakfast while watching the tugboats race from Westhaven at 10am, down the harbour and back again to finish, where they will perform the tugboat display that’s proved immensely popular with spectators in recent years. Following the tugboats, the classic launch fleet will start their race off Westhaven at 11am. Then the classic yachts and other keelers will begin their races from 12 noon.
The full Member’s Bar menu will be available from 11am, with unsurpassed views of the races off Westhaven.
Those racing in the Auckland Anniversary Regatta are invited to join spectators for refreshments after racing concludes for the day, until the bar closes at 8.30pm.
